Median floor area of completed homes
This is the median floor area of new single-family homes completed in the year, from the Census Bureau’s Survey of Construction. Median (not mean) means half of new homes are larger and half smaller, so a few very large custom homes do not distort it. It measures finished living area and excludes garages, unfinished basements and lots.
