Running Pace Calculator

Find your pace from a distance and a finish time. Enter both and we'll show pace per mile, pace per kilometer, and speed.

Example: with Race preset Custom · Distance 3.1 · Minutes 28 m → Pace / mile: 9:02 /mi.

Using pace

Pace is time per unit of distance — the lower the number, the faster you're moving. The defaults show a 28-minute 5K (3.1 miles). Flip the unit to km if you train in metric, and use the result to set splits for your next race.

How it’s calculated

Pace = time Γ· distance; speed = distance Γ· time. Converted between miles and kilometers (1 mile = 1.60934 km).

"Solve for" lets any two of pace, time, and distance drive the third: choose Time to get a finish time from a distance and target pace, or Distance to see how far a given pace covers in a set time. Race presets fill the standard 5K/10K/half/full distances, and the splits table divides your total time evenly across each mile or km.

Results update as you type and are estimates, not professional advice β€” verify important decisions with a qualified professional.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing up miles and kilometers.
  • Entering total time in the wrong field (h/m/s).
